The Japan Post tracking number consists of 11 to 13 digits. This is with the omission of the shipping number, for example, 12345678901.
There are three delivery ways for international mails/parcels. This includes the economy air, air, and sea delivery methods. The method to use depends on your preference and the urgency of the delivery. Below are the delivery methods with the corresponding transit time.
a) The Air Mail
In this method, parcels/mails are transported by air, which is a bit costly. The items are delivered within a period of 3-6 days.
b) The International Speed Mail (EMS)
This method offers top priority to international posts and delivers the items within 2-4 days.
c) The Ship Mail
Parcels/mails are transported by ship. It is the cheapest method. However, the delivery is made within 1-3 months.
d) The Economy Air
This method uses SAL flights and makes deliveries faster and cheaper as compared to shipping and air respectively. However, SAL flights are limited to certain countries. The delivery time of the parcel/mail is between 6 and 13 days. The delivery days are dependent on the handling of the destination country.
The following should be considered when making an international post.
A:— The duration of posting an item from Japan depends on the service used by the sender. There is the Airmail, international speed mail (EMS), Ship mail, and the Economy Air services. The ship mail is the slowest delivery method with a duration of between 1 and 3 months. The other three methods are faster with the best (Airmail) having a delivery time of 2-4 days.

A:— Yes. Please note that there are international parcel laws that restrict you from sending certain items. These prohibited items have been categorized into:
§ Live animals
§ Pornographic materials
§ Flammable and explosive materials
§ Valuables and precious stones (Only applies for the EMS)
A:— Yes you can. Please contact your nearest post office. It is worth noting that certain countries do not offer this service for the international parcels/the EMS. Therefore, you can only make changes to the addressee name before the parcel is prepared for shipment.
Below are the charges incurred when you perform a change on the addressee.
A charge of 530 yen if you make a request after the parcel is ready for shipment.
If the request is made before the preparation of the parcel to be shipped, no charges are imposed.
A:— The maximum insurance cost is the actual value of the parcel to be shipped. This is however dependent on the destination country. Different countries have different maximum insurance amounts. You can confirm the rates through the International Mail Conditions. However, the EMS has standard maximum insurance of two (2) million yen for the international parcels.
A:— Please make a submission of your search investigation request to the postal branch which the parcel originates. A search will be conducted within a period of 6 months from the shipment date. To make a search, fill in and submit the search request form. Note that this search is limited to specific countries.
A:— The language to use depends on the destination country of the parcel. Often, English or French is used. However, you should check to confirm the language in the international mail conditions from our website.
